Default New Passat owner hearing noise from rear driver's side wheel

Greetings all, I'll start out by saying I'm not mechanically inclined at all. (My greatest feat to date was changing the alternator in an old car of mine) but here we go:

I was recently in the market for a used car, and fell in love with the Passat. I ended up buying a beautiful 2002 GLX 4motion. A few days after bringing it home, I am now starting to hear a grinding or metallic rubbing sound coming from what appears to be the rear driver's side wheel. It occurs when going over even the slightest of bumps and seems to be quickly getting louder.

Any ideas?

Default What it very well could be...

reading through all the sites I could find on google about the problem, they recommended the following:

when the noise occurs, lightly pull up on the e-brake, or depress the normal brake pedal. If the noise dissapears the most likely culprit is mis-seated brake-pads.

Alot of sites also mentioned worn out Sway Bay Bushings. Please pardon the complete idiot's question but...

I have a 4Motion, on my car are there sway bars in the front and back, or just in the back? Just curious as seeing in my case all the noise disapears with the lightest touch on the either the brake pedal or the e-brake, the mis-seated pads is my #1 suspect. heading in tonight to have them checked, will post anything I find out in the morning

Welcome to it does sound like it could be one of those. I believe stock comes only with a lower front sway. Best of luck with the fix.

Default Brake Clip

well I guess Karma does come around... Im one of those who is used to taking the car in for a minor thing only to be told I'm gonna need a 2nd mortgage to get my car on the road again...

I took my car into the shop and low and behond all it was was the brake clip being loose. the shop didnt even charge for the inspection and putting it back in place.
