Default odb2 reader / error code

is it possible to reset or clear the code without a odb2 reader? I replaced a intake boot the other day had my guy clear the code, now the car is at my girls work and the vaccum line came off. So of curse it threw a code and now since there was a code the car wont idle until the code is cleared. I cant afford to get it towed just to have someone plug in a odb2 reader to clear the codes ;/

this really sucks. i love my passat but this is costly just for a simple fix. if i was out of state and something simple like this happen i would be screwed. i really hate these new odb2 thingies. With a baby in the car i cant take the chance of breaking down and being screwed on the side of the road ;(

my mechinic told me no matter what, the code needs to be cleared by a odb2 reader. he doesnt charge me for doing it, the only problem is my car is 20 miles from his shop lol

If the CEL isn't on, AND you know what the codes are, then don't worry about it. If its on, get them scanned/fixed/cleared

What?
Double what!?!?

The car is running bad due to the issue that is causing the code, not the code itself...now I confused myself! Dammit just get the code!

i know that, but you would think common sense would. the vaccum line fell off, i put it back on and replace the clamp. this wouldnt fix that problem?

well we took it to the dealer, all about 5 mins it was done and fixed. they claimed the code was "bad ground"

/me scratches head.

vaccum line off, car idling ruff, bouncing from 1000 to 100 sometimes cutting off. fixed vaccum, car still idling ruff, turns out to be really a ground wire? i dont beleive it.
lol

Alot of VW racers are telling me to can the odb2 and convert to odb1 i dont know to much about vw's but whats the differnce in obd2 and obd1?

Autozone would have done this for free if you had fibbed and told them you bought a part there to correct a CEL.

This isn't a good idea and I believe it's not legal, depending on your state inspection laws. And it's a waste of time/money for a street car IMO.
