Oil on motor
I have a 2002 Passat and I have smelled oil burning every once in awhile, so I watch for smoke from the tailpipe. I checked my oil and the level was ok, but I noticed oil on the side of the motor.... not a pool but quite a bit and I think if it was spilled from my last oil change almost 5000 miles ago it would have burnt off by now.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what it could be?

Check the crank case breather hose, sometimes it gets brittle and can crack and oil residue will leak out, I have this problem on both cylinder banks. it will be a piece of plastic tubing about 1/2 inch thick. do you have a v6?
