please forgive te newbie post here... but I just cant figure this one out:
in my 2002 Passat, the center armrest is stuck open by about 2 inches, and no matter what I have tried I cannot get it to close all the way. I've tried opening it all the way with the elbow rest closed and extended, Ive tried opening it quickly and slowly, and I dont see any buttons to press... If anyone has seen this, and knows how to get the center armrest (just behind the hand brake) to close all the way, please let me know. Thanks guys, (Yes I know I'm gonna get flamed for this one.)

Try opening it all the way till it wont open anymore then try to close. The hinge on the Passats are multi-hinged and have notches in them so you can angle the armrest.

Don't wory about getting flamed here, MOST of us aren't that way.
I've never had this problem with the Passat, but try what DB said. On the GTI/Jetta there is a button on the front that lets it go down farther than level, but I don't think the Passat has that.

well no matter what I tried opening the armrest, I could never get it to close.
I removed the tray in the armrest, and found with the tray removed, if I tap he side of the armrest it will allow me to close, but as soon as I put it back it stops functioning again... must be something broken. Ive done some searching through the links here in the forum, but if anyone has a place I can go to find a replacement to the armrest... or armrest mechanism I would appreciate it. Thanks,
