reprogramming fee
I have a 2003 VW Passat and recently had it at the dealer for some warranty work and other misc maintenance stuff. They told me it needs a new battery. It's the original battery and is probably about time. I opted to not have it replaced at that time since I haven't had any problems. The VW dealer wanted about $200 to replace the battery & I felt I wanted to look into it some more since it was still running fine.
When I asked about why it was so much, they claim there is an $80 reprogramming fee. I forgot to ask exactly what this reprogramming fee is, but does anybody know? I am looking at my local Kauffman Tires store replacing the battery cause they offer a lifetime warranty on their batteries. I told them about what the VW dealer said & they weren't aware of this and have replaced many batteries with no problems. They thought maybe it was to reset the clock and stereo & stuff like that, but I can't imagine it's just for simple stuff like that. I can do that myself and save the $80.
Any insight on what this "reprogramming" fee might be and involve when removing & replacing a battery?
