The temp gauge on my 2000 Passat V6 works, then doesn't work, then works again. The engine seems to run fine. I am guessing the sender unit is failing. A new sender is only $5, but dealer wants over $100 to fix it. Where is the sender located and how do I replace it? Any special tools needed?
