Europe’s leading car manufacturer, Volkswagen Group, is now ready to launch new cars in India.
Volkswagen Group will rolled out new cars from its Chakan based manufacturing plant by April 2009. The deadline of the project has been re-scheduled and it is pre-poned nearly by a year ahead of its previous scheduled date. This decision has been taken by the company as a result of increase in Volkswagen Group sales despite the ongoing slump in the Indian auto market. Volkswagen has registered a 66 percent growth in the this year from January to October.
The Chakan based manufacturing plant of Volkswagen will roll out
Fabia by April 2009 as its first batch. The manufacturing of
Skoda Fabia is currently ongoing at the Group’s Aurangabad manufacturing plant which is operated by Skoda Auto. This manufacturing plant also produced the
Volkswagen Jetta, Passat, Skoda Fabia, Laura and Superb. Volkswagen had previously announced for the investment of Rs. 3500 crores in India, out of which Rs. 2650 crores have been invested in the Chakan plant. The new manufacturing unit at Chakan will have a capacity of manufacturing 110,000 cars annually when it is complete.
Volkswagen Group has also planned to launch
Volkswagen Polo in India by next year which will have design and style inspired from Scirocco, a three-door saloon. Indian version of Polo will be more stylish and sporty than its other models available worldwide and it is expected that the sedan version of Polo will hit the Indian market by 2010.
