Default 88 Scirocco 16V start problems

Hi All,

My bro has an 88 Scirocco that "he thinks" he disabled, so it wouldnt be stolen.... This is what he said in email:

"Get a Bentley manual, no other manuals out there have the correct information and the fuse labels (on the car itself) are wrong... If you did get the bentley manual, the page you want to look at is the "relay panel" page for the 1988 Scirocco 16V. The correct relay and fuse positions are pictured there."

Ok, all I know is it is'nt getting a spark at the distributor.... Still have to test the coil, but gotta find the voltmeter.... Anybody have any ideas???

Thanks

.. apparently he did "disable" it .... was alcohol involved in this process? Sorry .. ok .. there should be a primary ignition fuse - make sure it's in place - if you're not getting 12V to the pos side of the coil then I'd suspect the fuse was pulled. I have no idea what it's location is in the fuse block BUT I believe it's a 25 or 30 AM jobbie.

Something else "clever" he may have done - disconnec the ECU - under the plastic drip tray (under the hood, drivers side, back under the louvers in the hood, there's a flimsy plastic cover - carefully lift it up - you should be able to see the ECU - the big electrical connector SHOULD be connected - if not - that's how he "disabled" the car - so hook it back up).

Best of luck

Steve

There is no juice getting to the coil... The Bigass ECU cable is connected, but there is a small cable underneath it that is'nt connected... and apparently doesnt connect to anything that I can see... The primary fuel relay is connected, as well as the primary fuel fuse #5...

The only thing I can think of is to find someone around here with an 88 16V, and swap out the ECU to see if that is the problem....

Without a bentley manual, Im dead in the water

Aaron
