Hi again. The scirocco is running like a dog. Lumpy on tickover, more so when warm and holds back on accelleration.
Changed the plugs and dizzy cap, rotor arm and fuel filter. I know the exhaust is blowing a bit tho.
Not on computer that much but here's my mob No. if any of you have any advice

Cheers
Gary

It sounds like a fueling issue initially...what kind of plugs did you change to, just out of curiosity?

Your in-tank pump could be dying or there is a fine mesh screen that can get plugged up and starve the motor.

Have you checked the O2 sensor? The O2 sensor has a lot to do with mixture control after it warms up which would explain why the car runs well cold or for the first few minutes after a restart. It usually takes about 2 minutes for the fi system to go into closed loop operation when warm. I've also had success fixing such a problem by replacing the EHA. You know, that grey box on the side of the fuel distributor. Try getting one off of an 8V cis-e as a test unit...if it is an 8v that is.

The O2 sensor is a sensor on your exhaust that reads your air/fuel ratio.

Car now packed up. Starts up but dies straight away. Pump starts up as can hear it buzzing. It did seem to die as going round a bend so maybe a blockage.

Check out www.scirocco.org, there is a great tech section which gives step by step diagnosis which includes part #'s and tools etc. I have a 16v which experiences similar problems at startup either cold or warm. I've changed the fuel filter, plugs, air filter, run Techron through twice and LubroMoly once and no significant change. I'm looking toward the injectors next. The article on scirocco.org suggests vacuum problems. I'd say its worth a look. If your mixture screw is completely missing then you should be running all out of shape. The car needs the proper mixture or all kinds of bad things can happen to the smoothness of the idle, etc. Good luck.
