Default Need Help with EGR reset button on 86 Scirocco

Yesterday I reset the egr button on the speedo cable box and the good thing is that the light went out. The bad thing is now the speedo won't read, it stays at 0.

I talked to a friend of mine that is familiar with VW's and he said he has never encountered this. Anyone have any suggestions other than the obvious one of going to the bone yard and finding another box?

The connection at the box is good. I can't find the other end that connects to the speedo without taking the dash apart, (next on the list) . It does seem to have a lot of slack though. Do you know what holds it in the speedo? I figured that it would screw in and not come out.

The speedo cable is held into the speedometer with a clip. Sometimes the cable pulls out due to an old clip. You can reach up under the dash all the way to the speedo and feel if the cable pulled out. If it pulled out, first check to see if the cable spins when the wheels are turned. If not, find the bad section of cable. If yes, plug it back in.
