Default Need to replace turn signal/cruise control lever.

Need to find an inexpensive source for this item, also, how involved is it to replace?

If this is for a Scirocco I doubt if your will be able to find a new VW part at a dealership.

I would look for a replacement at a junk yard.

You can try the link set forth below:

Used VW Parts - Used Volkswagon Parts - VW Bug Parts - VW Jetta Parts

If you find a replacement part the change out is pretty straight forward. Go to an auto parts store and purchase a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for your year Scirocco. Should have directions and pictures to aid you. Cost of the manual should be around $10 -$12.

I would not use a Haynes manual if it was forced on me. They are C R A P. Still looking for a Bentley manual, or even better, an actual VW shop manual for this vehicle.
Junkyards want almost full retail price for the used part. I can get the part at AutoZone for 45.00, thru a junkyard for 40.00. My budget is no more than 25.00, so I'm a long way to afford the part.

Ok... I also, don't particularly like Haynes or for that matter Chilton manuals. In my opinion Bentley is the best; however, Bentley will cost $90 to $125, if even you can still find one for your Scirocco; Haynes / Chilton will cost you about 80 percent less.

Can't aford a replacement "signal / cruise control lever" for $40 +/- $5; suggest you sell your Scirocco to someone that can aford to keep her and buy another vehicle.

Owned and drove; 1982 Scirocco, 1.7L 5-speed, as a daily driver for 20 years plus and over 220K miles until retired 2002.

Don't appreciate the snarky answer...Some of us ARE NOT Enthusiasts, we just got a cheap runner car, and need to try to keep it together till we CAN AFFORD a nicer car.
The guides can be found for less, you just gotta be patient, I just dislike Haynes manuals.

BTW: Try spell check....it works great on this site.

Ok I apologize for my "snarky" answer. I am a VW enthusiast and particularly enthusiast about my Scirocco which I still have and am slowly restoring.

Why don't you try the post that is advertising a "part-out" to see if they have what you need at the price that you want to pay.

Let me give you a little advice about Scirocco's and VW's in general; they are great running autos and plenty of fun to drive. But they are not cheap to maintain and if not maintained (and I mean WELL maintained) they will make your life miserable.

Enough said. Good luck with your repair.

Considering I just sold a 85 380SE that was eating me alive in maintenance, I understand the thought. Although in my experience, VW parts are easier to obtain and MUCH cheaper than Mercedes parts. I'm unemployed right now, and can't afford much to fix up the car.

I can read between the lines and I understand your last post.

Sorry you are unempolyed. I am too. I plan to retire next year (getting to be an oldester anyway) so for me it doesn't make a lot of difference. Will just have to postpone completion of my '82 Scirocco restoriation for another year or so.

Now your problem:

Post where you live; city and state... If you feel uncomfortable doing that at least post the state; along with the year of your Scirocco and I will see what I can do for you in cost / delivery from supplers / partners that I trust and have done business with before.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm finding all of the parts I'm needing from a guy parting out his 84 Scirocco on VWvortex's forums...I'm in Maud, OK. I can get parts from OKC, but that's 60 miles away, and they are PROUD of their parts. 120.00 for a junk cluster w/no guarantee that it works, w/no return privileges.
I got this 84 for a steal. 650.00, engine very good, body straight, needs a new paint job sometime, good ol' silver, never looks good old. In fact, I call this car my poor man's Delorean. In silver, it makes for a passable lookalike.
Next project is to replace the shift bushings to fix the issue of sloppy shifting, and after that is to save my pennies to do a clutch replacement. It needs one now, but, if I take it easy, I should be able to squeeze another 2500 miles on this one before it becomes a must do job. Only slips now when I try to accelerate hard, and in third gear for some reason, more than any other.
I can put off the turn signal switch for a while. Last owner rigged it to work where the hazard switch was. push switch left, left signal, push to right, right signal comes on. Does not self cancel, only downside to that okie engineering job. Also, can't go to high beams, as the switch appears to be jammed for that.
Considering that I see a lot of Sciroccos being sold for 700+ in non-running condition, I'm ok with this deal for now. That Mercedes was one break-down away from being parked for good. Sold it, and bought this with the proceeds with a little left over to register it, and to do a little work.
