Question questions about 77dasher

Hello I just got my first vw for my 20th bday
Its a 77 vw dasher or fox station wagon and Im wondering if anyone
could tell me some pointers on what I should do to it before i start her up
It has the diesel engine & hasn't been started since 02, I was going to start off by changing the oil as it's as black as asphault, the gas smells like laquer thinner.
So I'm going to flush the gas tank do you think the fuel injectors will be clogged up? if soo how do you rebuild them? I have to hook the tranny linkage back up
and get a batt but the rubber Axel boot has a big cut in it. do you think if I grease it up could I repair it with some rubber and melt it?
Is the fuel filter the same thing as the fuel water seperator?

Thanks
