The fact that there are not many outthere make this project even more interesting
Ok Question?
Can you theoreticly swap a vw rabbit /cabby long block motor(minus the intake & exhaust) into a fox?

The problem there become clearance, 16mm is a bitch...An Audi 80 2.0L 8v aka "Bubbleblock" (engine code 3A) seems to be the best choice for a combination of good power, ease of installation and price. The Audi 80's 2.0L 8v is the only of VAG's 2.0L engines that isn't taller than the 1.8L ones. This means that it will bolt right up in the Fox's engine bay. It also uses CIS-E fuel injection, so it should not be too difficult to get it working. You may even be able to use to stock Audi 80 exhaust manifold and dual downpipe, but I'm not certain. On an Audi 80 engine, the fuel injectors are in the intake manifold, and not in the head. Plus this engine has better reving characteristics than the ABA, for the most part.

Are you refering to Furtells "Crazy like a Fox" build they were doing about a year ago? I heard about that, but never heard anything again, or bothered following up on it.
The block is essentially the same as any VW 4-cyl block, so it should bolt up into the car without any big problems. The alternator, power steering pump and A/C compresssor are in different spots from their Fox couterparts (except for the PS pump, since Foxes never had them), so those might pose a small problem. Audi A4s and VW Passats came with longitudinal 1.8Ts, so those would be your best choice. Some Audi A4s also had mechanical throttle bodies, so that would make the swap a bit simpler. It wouldn't be cheap though, but I don't see why it couldn't be done.

I found a post on here .Talk about rare do a search and this came up :P
We had a mamber that did the 16v swap. it was a direct bolt on. But needed a diferent many. Now if the 16v bolts up to a Fox trans. and motor maounts match. All I have to do is rewire it.I remember Aaron speeking of a year 1.8T motor and ecu that was the easyest of the bunch. Basicaly exactly what I am looking for.
Now As far as other parts of intrest maybe a little fabing might be involved. I would love to swap a A4 quatro trans motor in combination with a syncro rear of some sorts. Jut need to find the right cars to sorce from
Maybe a quantum sysncro will fit

To be correct.. it's the only 2L 8v. The 9A is a short deck motor as well.

The engine layout of the Fox was pretty much the same from all the way back in '74 up though '93 and on into the Audi 80. VW 4cyl bellhousings were all the same so swapping an AEB into an early Fox is pretty simple really.

If it were a difficult and involved task you wouldn't see Futrell taking it on.

Something I've always found funny is that Fox people don't take full use of the Fox popularity in Brazil. I've seen very few 16v Fox swaps in the States and people making a HUGE deal about it in the Fox forums on the 'tex. One thread was eight pages of 'what the shit am I going to do for an exhaust manifold' and no one had the right answer. No one told them they put the 2L 16v in a longitudinal chassis. It was the 3A code, essentially a 9A with different manifolds and it makes doing the swap into a Fox like putting a Scirocco 16v in a Rabbit.
