Default engine swap and forgot which side for coil wires

Hey everyone...
I have a fuel injected 1983 sirocco 1.8L. I removed it and replaced it with a carbed 1.8 that was bored 15 over, but Im not sure what VW it came out of.
My PROBLEM is this. After doing the engine swap, I went to start it and wasnt getting any spark from the coil. Tested it and it works great. I did some tests on the HALL connector, that was working right. disconnected the connecter at the distributor and checked the two outside wires ( red/black, brown/white) and they are working right. Grounded the middle one ( green/white) and got spark from the plug wires. All grounds are installed.
What Im thinking is I installed the wires wrong on the actual coil. I have green and red/black on the positive side and the two blacks on the negative side.
I looked through the chilton manual to see what engine I have installed. The only thing I come close to is the 87-89 fox engine. The reason I chose this engine in the manual was because of the color coding of the wiring from the hall generator to the distributor is in the same order as mine.
Of course the wiring in this Chiltons is very vague on the ignition coil. Please help, Iwant to run this VW. Oh and I should tell you I drove the project car home and the engine ran good before I removed it . Thanks in advance for any help. John

What I've found working on my Fox, is black ISN'T ground! Brown is ground. I found black wires have power.
So I'd try switch around the coil wires.
