Default Touareg rant/my lousy day

These Touaregs really piss me off!!! I've never seen so many GD fault codes on a car in my life! And today, I had to do a BP service on one which isn't gonna be done until Monday because The GDFPoS needs a "seat memory control module" which according to the VW Hub is only available in a few parts of the United States! GDit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FYI, a BP service is a flash upgrade to the control module for the transfer case. In order to do a flash upgrade (as with all flash upgrades) you have to clear all the fault codes first, else you will have either a huge PRD (pay-roll deduction) for a control module or (at a minimum) the flash upgrade won't work.

Anyways, I'm clearing the fault codes to do the BP service and then I get a fault for "electronic central electrics" saying that the driver's side seat memory control module needs to be replaced (no communication). I told my team leader and he really didn't help out a whole lot until I got the manager involved. Two hours later, I confirmed what the scanner told me two hours ago! IT NEEDS A NEW CONTROL MODULE FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT SEAT!

What took me two hours was trying to get help from the team leader. He wanted to "teach me a lesson" on proper diagnosis. Worthy enough, but when I got two more Touaregs which need flash updates and three alignments on top of that, a 2-hour lesson on proper diagnostic techniques ain't worth it! !@#$%^&*()_+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

Now I feel better .....wait, I gotta work on Saturday.

I feel your pain.

I just finished off a 17hr day... I'm going to bed now and in 3 hours I have to be up so I can do an 18hr day tomorrow. All fun... humping 500-1200lb rolls of vinyl all day (inflatable bouncers for parties and events).

If the fault is in a completely unrelated control unit, I wouldn't worry about it. I have never had a problem with a reflash when unrelated control units have faults, but it sucks nonetheless. Sometimes you gotta suffer on some jobs...it only makes you a stronger technician as a result. Remember that and move on, and you will start to get really good at this stuff.

Don't you just love being a Tech. With all the BS that the Dealer gives you and then the asshole Team leader.

Went through 4 years of turning wrenchs at a Ford dealer and I HAD enough.
It got the point I didn't even want to work on my own car anymore.

Now I'm a salesman, selling Professinal Car Cleaning Supplies.

I drive all day long now, dealing with all the asshole on the road, dealing with the weather as well. So I don't really know which one is better. But I will say that I stay clean now and I make more money now with half the effort, that I was putting in at the Dealer :shock

Yes and no. This is the first time I've run across a fault code I couldn't clear and also the first time I've had to replace a control module as a result. And it was the driver's side seat memory control module.

Go figure.
