The Rubicon might be a good choice when tackling rocky trails and other such elements, but when it comes down to it, that's really all the Jeep has going for it. Well, besides the summertime no-top, no-doors, stereo pumping cool factor. I've driven one and I really don't think I would want it for a daily driver.

The Toureg meets the needs and qualifications of the award and therefore is well deserving of it.

From a previous Wrangler owner, I can tell you that they aer in a whole different class than the Touareg. I think this is common sense, but everything from the interior, to the engines is just completely different. The main reason I would take the Jeep for 4-wheeling purposes is ability to upgrade. How many lift kits are out there for the Touareg?

hate SUV's but i love the T. slite conflict of interest but oh well. the wife actually wants one, but then she saw the honda pilot and wanted that. ughhh what an ugly ass ride. anyway, if i could afford to get her the T i would pimp it with her. great job VW.

The Touareg is very capable offroad from the factory, with some options it gets better. But it isn't intended for modification, whrereas a Wrangler kinda is.

If you think about this that really is a great win. Just being the same category as other killer off-road 4x4's like the Jeep is awesome.

But to comment on back on your's Brett; no there is not much out for Reg yet on lift kits etc. However that was not part of this judging. I believe they were comparing it as stock. Now if they had a contest (which I'm sure they do) where you can tak any 4x4 and mod the shit out of it I'm sure some old Jeep or Bronco would P0wneD.

But hey you have to admit these are the shit!

Stock they are the shit, if I was buying an an SUV for mainly street use, I would take a Touareg any day of the week. If I was building a truck for rock crawling, I'd take a Jeep any day of the week though. The Touareg just doen'st have options to get it the ground clearance it needs to get over big rocks. Plus do you want to risk damaging your Touareg by doing this:

Like Carson said, Jeep are intended to be modded and brought offroad (trailrated...), so they are built so that they can do this stuff with minimal damage, and any damage that does happen can be fixed inexpensively. If I crazked the front bumper on my Touareg, I'd be pretty pissed and poor, on My Jeep, well I did and it was like $200 for a new one, double tube 3" powdercoated black.

Depending on the kind of offroading you are doing those Dakar Ts might whomp the shite out of a wrangler. Not all offroading is the same so I think it's important to specify when saying one is better than the other.

Which is why I said :

And the majority of offroading in the US is either going to be rock crawling, mud bogging, or trails like the rubicon, all of which I wouldn't bring a Touareg to do. If I was in the Sahara, I'd take the Touareg probably.
