(I dunno mate , here in Canada the base model is 52,000$ MSRP , i hear new VW arent that reliable , so the best thing to do is prolly go ge t yourself a nice little Toyota Rav4 , highlander , or Honda Civic , and since honda's and toyota's have one of highest reliability ratings and for the amount of $$ your gonna dish out , the japs are prolly your best option now . According to a mechanic friend of mine , VW has been going down the tubes since 1999 for reliability

Haha. General mechanics know nothing about VWs and hate them because European cars are different than American and Japanese cars, they are quirky and harder to work on. I don't think I've ever met a general auto mechanic who liked them. First off, it's not all about reliability, I'd rather drive a VW than a Civic becasue the pure driving experience is much better. Not to mention the fact that although some early Mk4's weren't reliable, you can't base your whole opinion (or your mechanics opinion, since you apparently don't think on your own) on 2-3 MY's.

They have been since the mk4's thats true. A single gen had several major recalls, and a few other items that should have been recalls....
A view from a service department employee...The Touareg's were horrible when they first came out in 2004. They were in for service ALL the time. Software flashes to constantly update and fix computer problems and a few recalls. Since then, VW has made the changes that needed to be done and honestly, we dont see them in for service for much more than oil changes, tires, the needed items. If you are going to get one, dont get a 2004, it will be a major headache. I would recommend bringing it to a dealer for repairs though, because I dont think I wouldnt trust an outside shop to work on these trucks. I dont know how the Touareg 2's are since they just came out...but I'm assuming they will be ok.
If you get the V10 TDI toureg, I can get it tuned for you to have about 520whp, and 700wtrq. I could pull your house off of its foundation with it. I think they are worth it if you can fford it. Your asking a bunch of people with sub30K cars opinions on 50K plus vehicles, no one here has an honest opinion other than what they've read, unless they work on them
My friend bought the V10 TDI, balls hot model. Its always awesome at the lake when he goes down to the ramp and yanks his boat out of the water like a drag race while all the dually f-350's are spinnin tires and bogging their turbos.
We actually looked at getting a V-6 in place of the Passat, but the price is still too high for us. I think in their price range I wouldn't get anything else. You will way overpay for ANY toyota, and everyone else has their own special problems to deal with. At least with VW, you somewhat know what to expect.

Well when I buy an Acura RDX over a VW TReg you know something is up. Well to be honest we wanted something a little more smaller. Plus for the price & what we got on the Acura the TReg had no chance. The first gen of the Reg indeed hat a lot of issues. Apparently from what I've been hearing the new 08 is going to be a lot better.

That'll fit in my GTI, right?
trust me, if I could have found a way to fit it in anything I would have by now. I am waiting until I can buy one used like 10 years from now, then tune the hell out of it!!
Yeah christian, im going to get the v10 tdi i have 50 grand just itching a hole in my pocket.....thats not the only model available, and the others arent out of alot of people on heres price range.
I was looking at a 2005 V6 for a good price that still has some of the warranty left, but I can get a brand new truck for the same price so I dont think I can really justify it...they are a blast to drive for an SUV.

Whatever money bags, just buy one and shut the hell up, or don't and get something else, what a schizekoufe(spl?)

Yeah what I was thinking doing some research about a car, I should have just closed my eyes and picked one...
Thanks GLIGIRL for the info by the way, I was wondering why there were so many 2004's for sale.
