Default New 89 gli

Hello all, i just wanted to introduce myself as a NEW member and also as a NEW JETTA owner. I have recently purchased a 1989 VW Jetta GLI. As a previous E30 BMW owner i was a little sketchy about trading in my 2.5L inline 6 for a smaller, less torquey 1.8, but after the first test drive was greatly impressed and after getting my newly acquired jetta back to my house where i could dig deeper into its internal workings, and later yet at the local auto repair facility that i work, where i was more apt to look even further into the workings of this beast did i realize that this was like looking at something outer worldly. I must say that while this is all very impressive to me, there is lots i need to learn before i can truly understand how to properly diagnose and repair this beast. and trust me when i say, there is alot to fix. many small things that not need immediate attention, and some larger items that should be fixed as soon as possible.
I thank everyone here in advance for the help and knowledge i know i will receive, and can only hope that i will someday be able to repay the favor with the next newcomer.
On a side note, i chose this VW forum over all the rest because it is the most user friendly, and the closest to the one i am familiar with at Bimmerforums.com
I look forward to meeting new friends and enhancing my VW diagnostic skills with you all. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
