GREETING ALL

I have a 2000 Jetta VR6 - 5 speed manual tranny - looking to upgrade to a six speed. At first it was just going to be a straight in swap - yeah right - found out there was a higher ratio available for 6th gear - well - one thing lead to another and I discovered there was a lower 1st gear available also - then I decided as long as I was into the trannny maybe set up custom ratios front to back - so the BIG question I have - does anyone have a list of available gear ratios for the 02M - A N D - would there be a source for these gearsets I could be directed to ? In my intro here - I implied a code of silence I was running into with regards to these two inquiries. Any help would be appreciated - in advance - Thank You

the 6 speed requires different axles, starter possibly, a different clutch. why not just swap a normal 02m into it and call it a day? the 1st is going to be lower than the 5 speed 1st and the 6th will be higher than the 5 speed 5th. if youre going to open the case for anything i would put an LSD in it and call it a day

HI

Yep - know about the axles - figured on the starter also - if the LSD is- well I guess it would amount to a posi - I have that figured in also - as far as easy ? I would like to build this tranny with a custom gearset - if really cool optoins are available. I've been building hot rods for 30 years - easy is LAZY - just the same - thanks for your time in responding

Just as an FYI, the 1.9L listed there would be the TDI. The TDI never got the O2M in the US. Only available from Europe. You can get them, but its much easier to get one from a Vr6 or 1.8T here in the states.

I doubt any "custom" gears are available. These cars are just mass produced economy cars. There are some companies like eurospec that partake in aftermarket parts but are pretty hard to come by. Just drive the car.

i think all the money and time you will put into the transmission can be much better spent on the bottom end and a big turbo

Yeah right - a bottom end - why didn't i think of that ? Well - i'll tell ya - right now i'm trying to put together a really trick 02m 6 speed for the new vr6 engine on the drawing board - first things - as in - this tranny - first - but you know - not getting much help here - nice pictures of a car with an 02m in it - all kinds of advice on just putting a "normal" 02m in it - a list of ratios in production trannys - when my post asked for available ratios - you guys are not hot rodders - know it alls with no information to offer - so - like what - you all get together comparing snide cracks on the new guy ? Cool - been a hot rodder 40 years - can find all this stuff out elsewhere - l a t e r

This isn't a hot rod forum. Go back to building your 2 tone Chevy's. I will wait for your dumb remarks then ban you. So the floor is yours pops.

If you're going to do that, get a GLI vr6 that has a 6mt in it and then swap that motor out for the new one or bore it out. done son done.

If you're a "hot rodder" though, why on earth are you bothering with econo boxes with front wheel drive
If you don't have the skin for this place I want to see your reaction on any other VW fourm, specifically tex. Link us please it will save us the trouble.
