1970 Beetle Alternator Conversion

Hello all,

I recently discovered a bad bearing in my generator which threw off the axis of rotation and started to bring the generator pulley into the generator casing. literally drilling through my generator. very scary, i know. My question is how difficult is it to convert to an alternator and is it worth it since im stuck buying a new generator anyway?

To convert to an alternator, you'd need to replace the generator stand and maybe the backing plate. You'd also need to do some system wiring. Alternators are better but the kit is a bit more expensive than just replacing the generator and voltage regulator. It is your option.
