My engine light came on with a p0740 code meaning there is some possibility that at some point there may be a problem but the issue has not occurred enough to be a problem (relates to the torque converter). No one offers me a solution, not even the VW dealer, but the engine light remains on. They tell me to keep driving until I have a problem! The vehicle passed the Texas computer engine inspection in both 2008 and 2009. I am not sure if it will in other states. Is there a cure for this other than replacing the transmission?

It is a 2000 Rialta on a 1999 VW Eurovan chasis. The engine is the VR6. The Rialta runs fine and gets good gas mileage. I want to sell it, but it scares potential buyers who think the transmission is going to fail any second. The light has been on more than 2 years and more than 15,000 miles. The Rialta has 96,000 miles.

Any suggestions??

Transmission Problems but worse

I have the same error code P0704 but my 1997 EuroVan/Rialta starts to downshift really hard and then won't up shift properly. I can clear codes myself and have my own reader.

The check engine light comes on then the transmission drops back 1 gear and when I stop it won't up shift until I let it sit for a few minutes. Then it's fine for a little bit then the Torque Converter goes in and out, in and out, in and out.

Can anyone tell me what this could be it really seems to be electrical due to the fact that it performs perfectly on some really long trips an then all of a sudden the P0704 shows up and the problems begin. Also it only does it when it's up to temp.

OBDII Code (P0704 Torque converter clutch circuit open)
