hey i recently purchased a 2000 jetta. when the car is started and put in reverse the car will back up. when you put the car in drive it does nothing. i have tried putting it in drive low 1 but still nothing. check the transmission fluid like the book suggest but it doesn't make sense. the car has a drain pug on the bottom of the transmission and fill cap on the top of the transmission. the book suggest when you see oil start dripping out put the plug back in. can some one help me out. i'm thinking transmission is bad but thought i would ask.

Hey Gmelt1: I know what you are going thru, I have a 2001 and the only way to check tranny is to put it on lift, The bottom hole is for adding, Remove the top plug and if nothing run's out you need fluid, Pump the oil in thru the bottom hole until it run's out the top.......Good luck
