Hi All,

im new to this forum. im sure there are a lot of VW smarts here that can probably help me out.

my 67vw back fires at high RPMs. I have changed the spark plugs (gaped at 24) changed out the distributor cap, installed an electronic point. Everything you can think of I've tried. Oh!!! I have a 1776 dual carb. I don't know what else can cause this. the motor starts right up with no hesitation, however if I go above 3000 RPMs it starts back firing. I have checked he exhaust with snoop...and no leaks.

what can be the issue??

I am no vw expert by a long shot. But it sounds like maybe timing is off.
check that, then maybe plugs too. A freind had a 89 sentra that would stumble at high revs, he said it was plugs. Later on he had her running great, but for the longest time it would not run for nothing. So either ignition timing is off, or the plugs are not so good. Ignition is sounding like the culprit.
