Indicator light is stuck in D, Normal background light, no matter were I put the shifter. Have tried resetting but makes no differance. Still in limp mode.
Dies for no reason, won't start when tried right away. Wait 1 minute and starts runs ruff for a minute, like flooded and clears up.

Have unplugged and replugged all the plugs on the trans and unplugged the trans computer also. cleaned the grounds.

No vaccume leaks that I can find.

Any suggestions?

[Hi there,

I think I got same problem as your car. Mine is 94 Golf GL.

Yes, it occasionally put into limp mode (1st gear only). It happens
several times a year, particularly when the weather gets sticky and hot.
After 3 kms or so, it gets fine again. I think there's always a sign,
the tachometer flicks a little.

Do you think flushing the gearbox might help? People said the dirty
stuff inside the duct or valve might make the gearbox malfunction. I
also notice the whole engine bay is pretty hot, is the gearbox causing
the heat, makes the computer takes over into limp mode?

Hope you got some idea.

Heat hasn't been a problem in Illinois. Had the car scanned and had about a half dozen problems. Speed sensor, Throttle positioner, all 6 selnoids in the trans mission. I know that they all didn't go bad at the same time. Cleared the problems and the car ran well for about 50 miles died and went back in limp mode.
I believe I have a bad connection, maybe ground that changes with the temp. So, when I have time I will start cleaning more contacts,

Thanks for replying. I think previous owners hasn't maintain the car very
well, so guess it's just scums inside the gearbox, causing problem to
soleniods. Will get the "Wynn's gearbox oil changer" flush it soon. Do you
think it's a good try?
Anyway, I just dun know why people say it's reliable.
