I recently had my car smog checked for CA. It did not pass, but only needed a minor tune-up. As part of the work, the mechanic reset the check engine light. He said that I would need to drive the car for 100 or so miles to re-calibrate the sensors before it could be re-smog checked. I have now put over 400 miles on the car, yet every time the test machine is hooked up, the sensors all read "Not Ready". My local VW dealer has now had the car in their shop for 2 months, and are not able to get the sensors to calibrate, yet they can not find anything wrong. They say that the car would pass the test, if the sensors would read that they are calibrated and available. Today they told me that they are finally throwing in the towel. I am desperate to get the car smog checked as that the registration is now months past due. I have paid it, but CA won't actually issue the tags without the smog check. Does anybody have any ideas?
