I have a well cared for '94 Golf III with 220K (background)

Last Fall I had the expansion valve replaced and the system charged (slight leak there)

Here's the weird: When I start the car and drive and I get cold air although the selector for where the air should come out seems to not have a lot of effect. However, when I drive on a curve or turn to the left or right, a muffled whine comes from the air box under the dash and the air turns warm/hot and damp. When I drive straight and accelerate, it cools down again. Also, the floorboards get wet from condensate (not coolant) although I adjusted the drain flap in the firewall (cut part of the bottom off finally last week) and it drains well.

Any ideas???

Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps it is...I don't know how to check that save remove the air box out from behind the dash unit (which was hell when I performed a heater core replacement in a '94 Rodeo) but I'll do that if it is what it takes....
