On VW's if you install a manual boost controller, does the car automatically change the amount of fuel injected. Is this a good way to go about getting a performance gain without the price of a chip? What else is needed other than the boost controller....

Yes, the car will to some degree change the fueling a bit, however it will not be even close to optimum and tuned such as what a chip may offer you. It will make the car faster. If you plan on going w/ a bigger turbo upgrade, then forget the chip and just get a $50 mbc for now and save your $$$, if you plan on staying with the stock K03, then get a chip.
