Hey all im new to the forum...I got a 96 jetta GLX VR6, and im looking at the GIAC chips(the price is right). I need to know if I gotta send out my computer, or can I just snap it in a 96? Ive heard some people say that 96's you have to send out the computer, some people say you dont. So whos right?

I'm almost positive that you just do not pull the CHIP out and snap the other in. I believe you need to have it installed & soddered into the ECU. I know if you order from GIAC USA direct http://www.giacusa.com it's $300 USd + shipping cost. 48 hour turn around.

Or contact AWE there are probably the closest distributor to you.

I'm curious. Autotechs Q-chip for the VR6 says it'll increase HP by 7, yet most of you say a GIAC chip is giving an increase of 20 HP? For only 30 bucks more?? Does anyone have hard copy data on this or is it seat of your pants hearsay?
