Just came across your post. It was a while back, but I had a Touareg with major, major problems. The dealer was helpful in trying to get things fixed, but a lemon is a lemon. When I made a claim under the applicable lemon law, VW balked.
Following that, the dealer's service manager pulled me into his office and flatly told me to hire a lawyer. I followed his advice, and in a week I had a signed settlement and a large check (including a nice payment for my lawyer). I was so impressed with the way they ultimately handled it, I went and bought another Touareg.
I'd suggest reading up on federal and state lemon laws and seeing if you've reached the threshold for such a designation. Keep a log of everything that's going on and have documentation to back everything up. When the time comes, tell VW you're making a lemon law claim and be prepared for the fight. If you go this route, hopefully you'll have similar success.
Don't settle for a crappy car!
