I am a new member.
I have actually worked on VW's since the 60's. I used to build dune buggies in the "good ol days", in fact I still have one.
My how they have changed.
I presently have a 02 turbo beetle with 150,000 miles.
I bought it with 140,000. It had A timing belt installed at 106,000.
It has been running great until last week. I came out to crank it, it popped once like it was going to crank, then free wheeled like it had no compression.
Today I pulled the timing belt cover and it appears to have jumped 1 tooth.
I assumed that I needed to replace the timing belt, but I would like to know if there is anything else I need to replace while I have that portion torn down? The existing belt still looks great.
I consider myself lucky as I don't think there are any bent valves.
Any ideas or suggestions.
