I have a 1998 VW Golf GL it's a 5 speed with the 2.0.
I'm looking to get the VR6. But had a few questions.
1. Will this engine fit in my car?
2. Will the tranny I have for my 2.0 work for the VR6? "5speed"
3. I'm sure the wire harness is different. And computer?
4. Would I have to re do my compleat exhaust?
5. Would it make a diffrance in what VR6 engine I choose? "98-00's"?
Any info would help.

The 1998 golf is a OBD2 (after 1996) MK3. You need a VR6 from another MK3 (pre 1999). You will need a transmission from a VR6 as well. And yes the wiring harness and ECU will also need to come from a VR6. The exhaust will need to be redone as well. Everything will "fit" in the car since it was an optional engine for the cars. However, you need to source the entire power train from the VR6. Its alot of work and time consuming not to mention money, but plenty of people do it. If you are going to do all that work and interested in it, you may want to look into a VRT (VR6 with a turbo added on) project since everything is already going to be pulled out.
