I had a bad rattling sound when I revved between 2000 and 3000 rpms. Not at idle though. I took mine to a muffler shop and got the heat shield welded. Sound is gone and no problems since.

Sorry I did't mention that it was my catalytic converter making the noise.

its a distinct pinging noise, not so much rattling...definitely coming from the cat...i just had a muffler shop fix a bent hangar, i asked them to check for a loose heat shield and they said it was fine

The worst case scenario would be it would be the catalytic conv. itself. The inner honeycomp got loose or crap like that.

This would usually spell replacement.

Get under there with a rubber mallet and start hitting the entire exhaust, hit the floorboards around the heat shields. Thats what i do at work and it helps a lot, trying to pinpoint a rattle. Make sure you hit the cat converter also. But don't hit to hard to bend stuff.
