I have a 95 Golf 1.9 turbo diesel. When I'm cruising at 95kph in 5th, the engine is at 3000rpm. Then at 4000 rpm I'm close to 115kph. The redline is at 4500.

Now I'm wondering what speed other ppl are getting with the 5 speed at 3000 rpm.

I have a feeling it should be faster than that. Espesially when the speedo goes to 240 kph!

The reason his tach only goes up to 4000 is because its a diesel. They make there power at a lower rpm, and they run on Compression Ignition, not Spark Ignition like your 2.0L.The Ford Diesel has a red line of only 3800, but make 525Ft-lbs at 1400 rpm.

I have a 95 Jetta 2.0L and at 3000rpm, im at 70mph.
One thing you have to keep in mind, its a Diesel.they were not ment to have a high rev range, but very capable of stump pulling. At 95kph(60mph) your at 3000, thats sounds a little high, should be like 2500 at least. At 115kph(72mph), 4000 sound about right give and take a few rpms. Your speedo reads a max of 240kph (149mph), you will never see that on factory components, my speedo reads 140mph and i had the thing up to 130 before the fuel cutoff kicked in.

Sorry, I meant 220 kph on the speedo.

Anyways,

There must be somethere wierd happening, because my gas milage is out the window. I can't get anywhere near 35 mpg. I mean, 1/2 a tank gets me 250-280 km. However, nothing seem wrong with the engine and the clutch doesn't seem to be slipping..... Wired... BTW, this is my 1st VW. Other this issue, I like the car.
