so i was just given a 2001 TDI, she runs. they thought the turbo might be bad. these are the codes i pulled off it. codes listed below, i got a feeling this might be a bit of a project, the turbo sounds like its spooling fine. the alternator is gone for sure i know that. any suggestions or anything i possibly missed. im totally new to the tdi stuff. btw i still got my 2.0

p1557

17965/P1557/005463 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation
Possible Symptoms

Reduced power output
Limp mode

Possible Causes

Boost Pressure too High
Hoses/Pipes incorrect connected, disconnected, blocked or leaking
Charger Pressure Control defective
VNT (variable nozzle turbo): nozzles stuck
Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75) defective

Possible Solutions

Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components
Check Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75)
Check / Clean / Replace Charge Pressure Control
Check / Clean mechanism for variable nozzles



p1163
17571/P1163/004451 - Fuel Temp Sensor (G81): Open or Short to Plus
Possible Symptoms

Fuel consumption higher then normal
Starting the engine is not as easy as normal
Emission Levels not met

Possible Causes

Wiring/Connectors from/to Fuel Temp Sensor (G81) faulty
Fuel Temp Sensor (G81) faulty

Possible Solutions

Check/Repair Wiring/Connectors from/to Fuel Temp Sensor (G81)
Check/Repair Fuel Temp Sensor (G81)

p3130 - VAG Error Code: 19586
EOBD II Error Code: P3130

Fault Location:
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system - limit exceeded

Possible Cause:
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) solenoid.
Turbocharger (TC) boost pressure control.

P0380 Volkswagen - Glow Plug/Heater Circuit 'A' Malfunction

I'd refer to tdiclub.com for specifics on tdi's. You should find tons of help there :K:

Sounds like wastegate or n75 valve. Check those first.
I don't think boost would be too high if the turbo was gone.

That's what I've been thinking. I haven't had the time to get it all apart and check. Busy with school and the building of a family

Should be able to just lift up the hood and check either of these. Either the wastegate will be stuck. You should be able to wiggle the shaft on it a little bit. Otherwise you can go ahead and check the valve connections and fitment onto the hoses or replace it.

You also might have a clogged up intake which is causing the EGR to go nuts. Since its an '01 , if its never been cleaned out, it needs it.
