I am in love with a 2001 Jetta that seems to run fine, and has an engine light on. The owner says he puts tape over them and it's not a big deal.....any ideas what it may be causing this and if I should steer clear of future problems?
yeah, I drove mine for about a year and a half with the light on. ran seemingly fine until it started choking because the CAT was totally clogged up. seems that AZG motors have piston rings installed upside down and wipe oil up into the combustion chamber. If it's that model engine, I would just walk away unless the engine, and the catalytic converter have been replaced considering that's what they were recalled for. otherwise you're in for a long road of work.
