Hi, the Airbag light on the dashboard has come on and the display says Airbag Fault. The car has been to VW, they have advised it is the control unit, we have been quoted over £400 to have it replaced.

What I would like to know is where in the Car this control unit is located, so that I can get a part number and purchase a replacement part. I have seen them at breakers for £30 and am more than willing to get one, just in the hope that it will fix the problem.

Any help would be really appreciated.

I'm not sure if the UK version is different than the North American version, but on this side of the pond, the airbag control unit on a '02 Golf is located on the central tunnel, front, underneath the heater housing. You would need to remove the front console to access. The part number should be something like 1C0909605A027. You need to make sure if purchasing a used part that all numbers and letters are identical.

Hope this helps,

That's very helpful, at least I have a place to start looking, without just randomly taking the car apart.

Thank you for your help.
