Grounded wire

Hello all,

So I did a thing today! While messing around with the carb I disconnected the wire that runs from the positive side of the coil to the choke on the carb. Without realizing the wire was resting on the alternator I attempted to start it and immediately this wire grounded out and some smoke came from ignition? Or someplace in dash? It was hard to pin point the exact location. I immediately turned off when to the back and realized what I had done. 😖. Reconnected the wire, said a prayer and tried to start.no luck! 😫😭 Cranks but no power to the coil now so of course no spark. No blown fuses and now my ground or oil light doesn't light up when turning on my ignition. Can somebody smarter than I please direct me in the steps to take to diagnose and hopefully fix this so my son can drive his beetle! Thank you !
