Hi, ok so satan`s beetle needs a better brain than mine......
Our 2001 1.6 petrol beetle has a strange problem which has been going on for a while now. When upto temp and stuck in traffic for 5-10 mins or so, it begins to smoke, it is a blueish white smoke and can get really thick, once you move off again, it disappears and will drive ok.
We have had an intermittent ESP light and subsequent limp mode which corrects itself, occasional check engine light with codes P0172 (system too rich) and P0101 (MAF A circuit range/performance)
We used to have a misfire problem, but I have solved that with new plugs and leads. I have also changed recently the MAF sensor, MAF to Throttle body pipe (which was split) coolant temp sensor, and a load of gaskets.
I have carried out a block test, no exhaust gases in the coolant, a compression check shows all cylinders giving strong readings and doesn't seem low on power. Vacuum check shows a steady sensible reading.
Short of stripping the engine down, I don't know what else to try.....
Any ideas/similar experiences would be hugely appreciated!
thanks in advance!
