You may try pulling your distributor cap and rotor and spraying them down with brake cleaner. This should remove any gas residue, let them dry overnight unassembled and then reassemble the distributor and try to start it. Does your super beetle have points?

I was changing my alternator in my 74 super beetle and now it doesnt start. I think i may have spilled some fuel onto the distributor when i took the carb off but i just cant figure out how i can get it to start. Is there any way that i can clean it out? or do i have to buy a new distributor? Any suggestion are very welcome. thanks
