So I changed out my ignition switch because the car wouldn't start but the starter was fine and it didn't fix the problem. So I bypassed it entirely and put in a push button that goes right to the back of the starter. Only problem now is that my entire instrument cluster is dead for no reason. Ideas?
Well, your cluster with the exception of the digital clock portion is fed and actuated by the ignition switch as are many other things.
When you bypass the ignition switch and feed the ignition directly you are neglecting the many other items that are fed from a 12V rail that is fed from the switch.
You have to put all 12v destinations south of the ig switch on the output of your bypass switch.
So really, the more logical thing to do is, have the initial problem fixed instead of screwing around any further? It seems the more I do, the more I run into issues. After switching out the ign. switch, the car is also super sluggish from a stop and the shifter(A/T) doesn't slide into reverse properly. I don't know how all of this just happened in the last two days, but it seems it has.
