I need a new clutch. the dealer quoted me that it would take 8 hours to put in. thats close to 500 bucks, just to put in my clutch in my VR6. Has anyone had their clutch put on their VR6 by a dealer? How much they charge you?

Well that would equal about $63 an hour. I think my dealer charges 60 or 66 an hour. i forget. Now i'm not sure if it would take 8 hours to replace it though. I've never had one replaced.

A clutch can take that long, and that sound about right. You can find someone that can do it for cheaper though. Where do you live? Are you in central PA? I know a few contacts around here, one of them is a certified dub tech. and will be doing mine when I finally get it upgraded.

thats not really that bad, the clutch kit alone is anywhere between 150-250, it takes about 3 hours to yank a fwd motor and tranny, replace the clutch and get it all hooked up again, replace fluids, then theres the test drive. and thats with no interuptions.

id say that was a good deal, id only charge about 175 to do it...but i live in colorado

good luck

What kind of clutch kit can you get for $150-$250? An OEM replacement?

I got 92k on my original clutch. i wasnt going for a performance clutch because i dont think i will be heavily modifying my car. i bought a sachs OEM replacment clutch, cost me 220. well im going for it from the dealer, because i have made many calls on transy places, and nobody wants to mess with a VW. just goes with the territory i guess, wish me luck!
Peace,

Maybe just a little high. With the newer cars 8 hours could be right to ensure everything goes correctly. In reality it will take 5 but they will always overshoot the estimate to make them look profitible.

Best of luck. P.S. How many miles are on the clutch?

You'll likely be happier with the dealers treatment of your dub anyway. When I had the tranny rebuilt on my 240, they took it on a test drive before they put the fluid back in, so I got two new gears out of that debacle.

Never trust a redneck to touch anything built after 1972.

That number was just off the top of my head, so i checked em out, they are about 300$ so i was off by 50bux! .... but yeah, that would be for OEM quality

I would say then, if the DEALER (of all people) is willing to install a new clutch for 500$ that sounds like a screamin deal!!!

I had to have mine replaced last year, and I think it was just about $800 actually. A word of advice though, if you can find a VW specialist other than the dealer I would recommend it, the factory clutch on teh new VR6 is a piece of crap.
