the key hook for my 2000 Jetta VR6 has snapped off. Gluing isn't working. Is there a way to buy new key enclosures and simply switch the electronics from one to another?

Yes, no big deal -the electronics are on a little circuit board - just swap that (and the metal key) to a new shell I had the same problem - fixed it on the new key(s) by putting a little key ring (about 3/8") between the VW key and the regular key ring. That lets it flex around without putting stress on the VW key.
