hello vwforum
So it's come time for me to change the timing belt on my Golf and I'm not sure if the information I have on the timing marks of the engine are correct. Here's what I've got so far:
Camshaft timing mark (topmost) is right there on the cover; No issues here.
Crankshaft (one that rotates the distributor) should be so that the ditributor coil meets with the notch on the distributor itself; Cylinder 1. Looks good.
Lower Camshaft (one that rolls the flywheel/driveplate); this is the one i'm not certain of. The Haynes manual I have says to check to make sure the marks on the driveplate and flywheel are lined up to be at TDC. verified timing on the driveplate (lined up 'O' with botton of the 'elongated D' shaped hole.
replaced belt; checked marks, checked marks again. Car wouldn't start.
Is there something I am missing here or am i just not being patient enough?
thank you
regards
