I took my 97 Jetta III to a shop for diagnostics because my check engine light came on and code 1528 showed up. Unfortunately, the technician couldn't decipher what that means so he asked me to check with the dealership.

Does anyone know what code 1528 means or perhaps seen it after engine diagnostics?

Thanks for your help.

I can't find that code in the book(service manual) so I think that you need to go to somebody that can find the code and read it.
at the book there is a way to display the codes yourself so let me know if you want me to tell you how.
good luck

Wow! I am very impressed with all the responses. Anyway, as indicated the P1528 is "Intake Camshaft Contr.Circ.,Bank1 Open".

Does anyone know or can possibly instruct me on how to fix this problem? Or should I take my car to the dealership? See a VW specialists? I am trying to avoid the dealership because budget is pretty tight right now.

Thanks again
