My wife purchased a used '99 beetle gls with the 2.0 L engine. She has had many trips to the dealer about the check engine light that keeps coming on. The dealer says everything checks fine, and is always there with open hands to collect the cash for "turning the light off". We have called VW of America and now have a case number, and again the car is in the shop this week for the same thing. Anything we should look for, or anyone have any suggestions? Thank You.

Get yourself a VAG-COM kit runs about $129. then you can run these checks yourself.

Here is a search results page I did for you on Google http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=VAG-COM

This program will tell you the codes then you can look up what the problem is. Most likely there is a bad senor like an o2 or something since the car drives fine. Best of luck!

This is most likely the secondary air system again. Check the connection of the vacuum line that is connected just above the exhaust. It runs hot and dries, causing leaks.
