No crank no start

My vw Golf GTI 1.8t 5 speed recently started having a problem starting. I used to be able to start it with a jump or by roll starting it. I took the car to O’Reilly’s where it was tested and came up with a bad starter. After changing the starter out with the new one it now will only start by roll starting. The epc light is on and so is the battery light. After roll starting the battery light will flicker for a little bit but eventually goes away. Im confident i put the starter in right because i put in a new clutch on the car right. Any help?
