I bought a 1992 golf Mk2 Gti just before xmas. I bought it aware that it needed a front crankshaft end seal. I fitted the crankshaft end seal and then it started blowing oil out of the dipstick.. I diagnosed the fault as something to do with the breathing system so removed the top breather pipe which connects to what looks like a cylinder shape breather filter on top of the rocker cover which looks like the wrong part for the car as it doesnt sit right.. I noticed that somebody had shoved part of a rag into the cylinder filter which was blocking it so i removed the bits of rag to find that there is no filter inside and it looks like oil might be travelling down the pipe into the air intake . Now it looks like oil is coming out of where the spark plugs sit. could this be to do with the breather filter being wrong? Any help would be much appreciated..
