Hey I just got my 01 GTI a few weeks ago, and im debating weather I should run open downpipe. I know it will drop my horses and gas mileage a little bit and make cops love my car lol, but is there anything else i should consider?

Run a full exhaust setup, otherwise it's gonna sound like shit and have terrible drone on the highway. Louder rarely means better for a 4 cylinder

You're going to lose all your backpressure. Turbo cars need the backpressure to operate. I ran open downpipe on my Jetta for about 15 minutes. WAYY too loud, and it would not boost like it udually does. Get a TBE.

Backpressure hardly matters on a turbo car...the less backpressure the easier the turbo spools.

That being said, open dump = loud and stupid

Well shit! I thought it was the other way around.
Still...listen to everyone else. haha you don't want an open dump. You'll be sick and tired of it in no time.

You get more torque out of an exhaust with more backpressure usually...you more high end horsepower out of an exhaust thats higher flowing...this is why you notice a lot of 2.25" N/A exhausts

Yeah, after that last post I spend the next hour or so on google educating myself on backpressure, and exhausts.

Open downpipe sound like crap. I had my exhaust off yesterday to adjust my o2 spacer. So I figured lets hear how it sounds. Blah. Sounded horrible. Sound like a old shitty diesel dump truck.

besides.. the turbo is esentially a big ass fan.. it will create backpressure in a sense.. compared to an NA car.. plus.. 3" TBE system gives the turbo more exhaust to pull from.

** not to mention itll be loud.. itll gurgle.. itll be throaty.. and itll def turn heads. and not sound like a honda cracking vtec through a megaphone.**
