Decided to make this to give us all a place to bullshit and what not about the current photo of the month (whatever month it may be) or photo set ups, camera setups etc etc or whatever else comes up that has to do with the photo of the month / theme..

SOOOOOOOOOOO this way we can keep the chit chat out of the posting / voting thread! :K:

(now that this is created all posting other then pics in the posting thread will be deleted and same with voting poll threads in the future)

SO USE THIS!

I hate night pictures. What camera and setting are you using?

I have a canon xt, and just the kit lens. ive been messing around with the shutter under the "TV" dial, i took a ton of pictures changing the shutter each time. the best pictures were around 1/60 but they still look terrible, like i'm using a camera phone or something. not crisp at all, even with a tripod, using the timer to take the pictures. i kind of gave up after 20 minutes... i was freezing my ovaries off. brrrr!

Probably cause of your iso setting. Never have a higher ISO than 200. Try toying with the metering too.

okay you need to use full manual on night time photos on a DSLR, the built in light meter is your best friend. with your 18-55 kit lens it will be hard, but I would go wide open on your aperture i believe f/3.5-5.6 and prob a .5sec shutter time(the higher the f stop the sharper it is though, but the slower the shutter speed will be). Witht he XT you will get noise shooting at ISO over 600 probably, But thats why Ive been on Nikkor, they kill night time, my favorite time to take photos! besides the golden hours.
I'm such a photo whore
Get your self a good f/2.8 17-50mm lens with VR and you will be so happy, I've got the Tamron variant off amazon for around$350 which is a steal and It is my favorite lens by any means. Once you go outside the kit lens world it really opens up your sensor to a whole new world.
