you can get the neuspeed one that goes on you trans also with the abd that goes in the shift linkage, than it would be really short

i have a autotech short shift and shifter weight on my 88 gti 16v. works supreme. i really suggest getting a shift weight as itll take alot of the notchiness out of your shifts. you can make both of these for free with your old gear selector levor thing and a nice heavy chunk of metal like a piece of rebar 3/4 inch thick 4 inches long. basically the same thing that you would spent lots of cash for.

i have a neuspeed short shifter and a g&m enterprises weighted and adjustable rod. It is really short and works well. but i think with the techtonics it'll reduce it just as much but give you all of the plastic ball joint things. neuspeed only gives you the lever. But that's really the only major difference between the kits.

my buddies and i installed the Techtonics Tuning short shifter... it has 3 different reductions 12%, 31%, and 50%. Right now, I've got the mk2 on the middle setting (31%), and it's sweet! :p

also, we did a complete bushing replacement in the engine compartment.

FYI: make sure you use the Shift Gate Alignment Tool ($12 from TT) when you do this type of work.

I ordered my short shifter through Futrell Autowerks ($40, bushings were $8 ), but you can order direct from Techtonics Tuning (and you'll get the bushings too), all for $45.

as for the weighted shift rod, TT has it for $22 or you can do it yourself with some lead, torch (to melt the lead), 2x4, and a chissel... instructions here:

or

hope this helps

this weekend we are going to replace the shift lever area. $12 from TT :p
